Richard P. Lawson is the Director of the Consumer Protection Division at the Office of Florida Attorney General. Throughout his legal career, Richard has focused on prosecuting and defending actions related to fraudulent and deceptive practices. Over the last four years, he managed the Florida Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division, where he supervise over 100 people in seven offices throughout the state responsible for enforcing Florida’s ‘Little FTC Act,’ the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. In this time they have achieved tremendous success for Florida consumers, and their work in this area was recognized in December 2014 by the Federal Trade Commission who awarded us the first-of-its-kind 'Partner Award' for our extensive joint efforts with the FTC. Richard started his career as a prosecutor, and he quickly gravitated to complex financial cases. In the course of his time in the criminal courts, he gained extensive courtroom experience with over fifty jury trials and countless non-jury trials. Richard is admitted to practice in Florida, New York, and the District of Columbia. Further, he is Board Certified by the Florida Bar in Criminal Trial Law, and has a Martindale Hubbell AV Peer Review Rating.
