PAUL D. RUBIN is a partner in the Washington D.C. office of Ropes & Gray LLP, specializing in FDA and FTC regulatory matters and related litigation.  Mr. Rubin is co-chair of the firm’s Retail and Consumer Brands Practice and dedicates a substantial portion of his practice to counseling dietary supplement companies on FDA regulatory matters and advertising matters arising before the FTC, National Advertising Division of the Better Business Bureau (NAD), state attorneys general, and in Lanham Act lawsuits.  He counsels dietary supplement clients on new dietary ingredient issues, claim development, substantiation requirements, safety standards, adverse event reporting obligations, exclusionary clause issues, GMP compliance, recalls, and a vast array of related issues. Mr. Rubin has handled many of the most controversial dietary supplement cases since the passage of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), including but not limited to the Pharmanex v. Shalala case, ephedra-related challenges, energy drink disputes, challenges brought by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), and numerous FTC, NAD, and state investigations.  Prior to joining Ropes & Gray LLP, Mr. Rubin was the co-chair of the FDA Group at Patton Boggs LLP.  Mr. Rubin graduated magna cum laude from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
