JANE AZIA is currently the Chief of the Bureau of Consumer Frauds and Protection in the Office of the New York Attorney General.  From April 2007 through April 2011, she served under Superintendent Richard Neiman as the Director of Consumer Protection for the New York State Banking Department where she was responsible for ensuring   compliance with applicable consumer protection laws and consumer access to fair and non-predatory financial products and services. Prior to joining the Banking Department, Jane worked for nearly twenty-five years as an Assistant Attorney General in the New York Attorney General's consumer and internet bureaus. Jane has worked on a wide range of consumer issues, including predatory lending and foreclosure prevention. She helped enact landmark state mortgage lending reforms, led statewide foreclosure prevention efforts and promulgated the first comprehensive state mortgage servicers conduct of business rules. She was also active in issues involving preemption of state consumer protection laws. While at the Attorney General's office, Jane was part of the team that litigated the Clearinghouse and OCC v. Spitzer cases in federal district court, defending the state Attorney General's authority to enforce non-preempted state consumer protection laws against national banks. She is a graduate of Northwestern University and New York University School of Law.
